HOW STAUB CAST IRON IS MADE
Made in France and crafted through a meticulous multi-day process, each STAUB piece passes through more than 30 pairs of hands before reaching your kitchen. Cast from premium iron and finished with multiple layers of durable, non-toxic enamel, our enameled cast iron cookware is designed to deliver exceptional performance, lasting beauty, and generations of use.

THE MOLD TAKES SHAPE
A custom mold is crafted for each piece using aluminum, heat and hand tools. Each "parent" mold will later be used to create individual sand molds for each STAUB vessel.

RAW MATERIALS, REFINED
Raw iron, recycled cast iron, and coke are melted together at extreme temperatures to create molten metal. This blend of materials forms the foundation of our exceptional durability and heat retention.

INDIVIDUALLY CAST
Molten iron is carefully poured into individual sand molds. Each mold is used only once, ensuring precision and consistency with every piece produced, and a truly one-of-a-kind product.

THE BIG REVEAL
Once cooled, the sand mold is broken apart to release the cast iron beneath revealing the vessel's first finished form.

TRIMMED TO PERFECTION
Excess iron is carefully removed from the rim and edges of each piece. This process refines the silhouette and prepares the cookware for finishing.

BLAST CLEANED
Each vessel is thoroughly blast cleaned with pressurized air to remove any remaining sand or debris. The result is a clean surface ready for inspection and enameling.

SMOOTHED BY HAND
The cast iron undergoes a detailed grinding process to remove burrs and refine the surface. This careful finishing helps ensure a smooth, durable final piece.

QUALITY COMES FIRST
Every piece is carefully inspected to ensure it meets our standards for craftsmanship and performance. Only those that pass move on to the next stage.

SIGNATURE BLACK INTERIOR
The cleaned pieces are hung in batches, and a layer of black matte enamel is applied to the cooking surface. This creates the textured interior that defines STAUB. Its subtle peaks and valleys encourage exceptional browning, deeper caramelization, and richer flavor development.

LAYERS OF LASTING BEAUTY
Multiple layers of enamel are applied, including the exterior color that gives each piece its distinctive character. Made from glass and fused to the cast iron, this durable enamel coating is food safe, requires no seasoning, resists rust, and allows for easy cleaning with soap and water.

FIRED AT HIGH HEAT
Each piece is baked at more than 800°C to permanently bond the enamel to the cast iron. This firing process creates the resilient finish that defines STAUB enameled cast iron cookware.

THE FINISHING TOUCHES
Every piece is completed by hand with its knob, ribbon, and final details before being carefully packaged. The result is cookware crafted with intention, ready for a lifetime of cooking, serving, and gathering around the table.
